This author brings a very interesting and unique view of the brain, and the correlation between what improves thinking and the foods we eat.
He has a Master's in Molecular Biology and a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Oncology. I enjoyed how he has personally tried several types of diets in an effort to find those that assist mental acuity as well as those foods that suppress our moods and thinking ability. What would you eat to improve your SAT or GRE scores? Want ways to improve your fluid intelligence--raw foods!
What foods suppress, or antagonize your mood and behavior? Want to learn a language? What is the fastest way?
He outlines critical elements for your success. The book has great appendices which outline various types of diets. For example, the anti depressant diet, and the anger management diet. He explains how they alter your body's chemistry. There are interesting sections on ADHD, autism and ADD.

This book outlined what an IQ test consists of and how to improve scores. It explains crystallized social intelligence (measures vocabulary, general knowledge) vs. fluid socialized intelligence (the ability to understand and solve novel problems) which I found very interesting. The author explains "mental clarity", "social intelligence," and how they are measured. He explains ways to improve the brain and how to think better. I learned a lot and will use many of his ideas.
The book reviews control vs. placebo studies, standard deviation, significance and insignificance in a statistical study and how to interpret evidence from a study.
Breast fed vs. formula? Animal products significantly affect our thinking and our health. Eskimos for example eat raw foods without artificial ingredients. However, in industrial societies, today's animal products have changed and have pathogens which our immune systems can't handle.
Our brain can't adapt to processed foods, chemicals, refined sugars, and artificial ingredients. Food additives, sweeteners, thickeners vegetable gums, table salt, MSG, and nitrates impair learning and affect alertness. This book covers an enormous amount of facts and allows you to look at being smarter in a new light. Be prepared- you will want to take notes. I learned a lot and will go through it again to digest all of this information.

Title is misleading but GREAT information on the effects of food on mental clarity and mood!, May 3, 2010

Russian-born microbiologist Nikolai Shevchuk takes his years of self-tested theories about food and delivers this knowledge in an easy to read format called, "How To Become Smarter". Although I found the title misleading when considering the direction of the content, Shevchuk's book is crammed full of all kinds of information you won't find in other food resource books.

"How To Become Smarter" is Shevchuk's comprehensive and in-depth study of foods, food additives, and elimination diets and their affect on mental clarity and mood. While well documented and interesting, he also responsibly notes several times in the book that these experiments are self tests and not clinically proven. His tests do have limitations, though as his results are subjective and based on opinion, there are no experimental or control groups utilizing various ages or ethnicities, nor could there be any blind or double blind set ups for validity. He does point this out several times throughout the text to avoid misleading his readers. Shevchuk tackles such subjects as natural versus unnatural foods (ie. additives, flavor enhancers, coloring, etc), raw versus cooked foods and the chemical changes which occur as heat is added, and the effects of these foods on mood, concentration and such disorders as Attention Deficit and Hyperactivitiy Disorder (ADD/ADHD), testing, reading, and writing abilities, and a wide range of emotions and social tendencies. He offers elimination diet ideas for all types of intellectual, emotional, and social goals while pointing out that these diets are a temporary fix and not permanent solutions. The book ends rather abruptly after his chapter on social intelligence; Shevchuk offers no wrap up or conclusion for the reader.

I did find Shevchuk's "How To Become Smarter" title to be quite misleading; I was definitely not expecting a `food book'. Something like, "Mood Food", "Feed Your Mind", or "Anything and Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Food" would better suit the text while appealing to a wider audience (such as those interested in alternative, natural, and holistic health and wellness). With over 400 pages of details, observations, comparisons, research, suggested foods to eat or eliminate which relate to specific goals, the title "How To Become Smarter" didn't seem to do the book justice.

Nikolai Shevchuk writes an intelligent, organized book on the mental and physical effects of food on the human body. Meant to serve as informational versus clinically proven fact, "How To Become Smarter" is a great resource!

This book should be free, because all of the information contained can be obtained for free somewhere else. Also the author continues to point the reader in the direction of free resources from Amazon and Smashwords where we can find more information on what to do; isn't that what he was supposed to do.

The title itself is very deceptive in that the book doesn't tell you how to make money. Instead it is a checklist of step 1, step 2, now you are published. Sometimes you are extremely shocked at the quality books you can get on amazon for 99 cents, this isn't one of them. I'm sure eHow.com offers much more information than this book. I never regretted spending a dollar in my life until I bought this book.

If the author wants better reviews than he needs to put more thought, organization, and care into his books. His first book he admitted was a cookbook that he found online for free and organized the recipes and sold it online for money. Congratulations on originality.

I just want to point out that this is the authors mentality. He thinks if I get the information and organize it people will buy it regardless of whether it is quality. When reading a book people judge not just the price, we judge the quality of the information, and we judge whether we enjoyed it or it was a waste of time. This book was a waste of time.

Update: I just read Kindle Cash and that book is heads and shoulders over this one. A certain edition of it is also .99 cents so try to get that edition.

This ebook is great. It is very helpful and gives you all the information you need to know in order to begin publishing your ebook. It is well written and easy to understand - very informative. There are also links within the ebook - which work perfectly. The valuable content of this ebook is worth far more than the 99 cent cost. I have also been in touch with the author and have received even more answers to my questions. The uathor provides his email within the ebook for this purpose. Communicating with the author is a very pleasant experience. I read this ebook on both my iPad2 and my Mac (using the Kindle Reader app).

I found this book after purchasing a few of the author's cookbooks for Kindle. This book is a straightforward presentation of the specific steps needed to get your publication accepted at the major ebook retailers. I've just become interested in ebooks and the ebook publishing process, so I've begun to read a few of the free and inexpensive books on that topic. This book provides a good introduction to the "nuts and bolts" of getting your book out there. The step-by-step instructions are sufficiently detailed and easy to follow. There are links to other useful sources of information as well. All in all, good value for $0.99.

Steve Weber knocks another one out of the park with the latest addition to his online bookselling series. This time Steve educates his readers about the benefits of product diversification. While everyone else is worried about eBooks and how they will affect Amazon booksellers, Steve is busy reselling children's toys, power tools, grocery items, and the like. All the while using the exact same skills he developed scouting for books. And by the way, he still sells lots of books too.

I mean this guy is cutting edge! He tells you what equipment to buy, what software to use, and how to spot bargains waiting to be bought and resold from just about any retailer you care to mention. He literally explains how you can use your smart phone as a "treasure detector."

For example, he regales the reader with stories of how some of his students patrol stores like TJ Maxx, Big Lots, HomeGoods, Marshalls, and Burlington Coat Factory; picking up bargains from $0.25 - $0.50 on the dollar and reselling them on Amazon at full retail. It's safe to say that Barcode Body is the ultimate arbitrage tool for online sellers of all kinds.

Just because a manufacturer discontinues a brand or model doesn't mean it can't be sold profitably online. Manufacturing companies closeout merchandise all the time. That can spell big bucks for you if you know what to look for. Weber shows you how.

This compact 156 page book packs quite a wallop. If you're looking for a part-time or full-time endeavor, or if you want to branch out into new territory in your bookselling business, then this is one book you can't afford to pass up.

Barcode Booty is, I believe, the fourth book Mr. Weber has written and self-published on the subject of reselling on the Internet. It would be interesting to know why Mr. Weber does not publish through an established Publishing house, since the quality of his material, and the interest it would find is certainly high.

The book passes my first test of a superior volume. I found something interesting and useful within the first five minutes of reading. If this doesn't happen, whether its cooking or theology or hiking or computer engineering, I immediately assume 4 stars or less. The easter egg in this book is when Mr. Weber describing finding a toy at T. J. Maxx for $30, which he sold on Amazon for $280. The way he was able to accomplish this discovery, with a cellular phone camera with barcode reader and pricing applications, is the primary subject of this book. Otherwise, the book essentially follows the pattern of his earlier works. Thus, if you don't have his earlier books, this rates five stars. If you do, and you are familiar with the barcode reading abilities of cell phones, maybe three stars. I split the difference.

There are two kinds of people who may be interested in this book. The first is people who wish to imitate Mr. Weber's self-made career. The second are those who may wish to avoid the first kind of people, and find where this stuff can be bought cheap.

Since the Amazon page contains lots of detail, and since there are many reviews, I will stop there and end by repeating that Mr. Weber's task is not "easy". It requires a lot of hard work, but you have the advantage of working for yourself, and a reasonable certainty of good rewards for good effort. However, it does require some basic computer talent and a place to store inventory, at least some inventory.

I am very disappointed in this book. Sure, it was a really short read, but I was constantly bombarded with the author's advertisement to join the "eight week" program at the end of every section, which tends to get annoying. I found this a waste of time to read.

In addition, the concepts presented in this article are very difficult to understand. It brushed through all the terms so quickly that I was left more confused than before. Coupled with the nags about joining the online course, I was irritated at the time I wasted reading this.

This book appears to be nothing but an infomercial for his website. Whenever he starts to tell a good story or give good tips. before finishing he gives a link to his website. And what good are weblinks on a Kindle? I can't imagine what the print edition is like. Do you press a link on a page with your finger and a magical screen appears before you? He's also obsessed with this UPC like codes called QRs which appear throughout the book. I have no access to these codes and thought they took up space and were worthless and interrupted the story.

But more importantly, nearly everything in this book is either pure common sense or easily available elsewhere on the net for free. I really question if some of these reviews aren't submitted by his PR team. Really, a nine page review?

I just don't trust his numbers. He says in one paragraph that the founder of Zappo's is worth $700M after the sale to Amazon. A few pages later he says that it sold for $1B, then later he says Jeff Bezos paid over a billion. Which one is it?

He also goes on to say that he purchased a blinds company in Houston. He said their website outsold both of their retail locations. The Kindle version says the website is [...]. I assume that is a typo for nobrainsBlinds.com. Nonetheless, he said the website business was more successful because it had no overhead. So, I guess the place just ran itself with Japanese Robots and Disney cartoon characters. No phone lines, no internet, no shipping, no labor, no benefits?

I swear this guy will be on late night TV ads in no time.

This is just a story of a man who got lucky buying a domain name and selling it for a fortune. Now, he just plays with his money. But, I think for him to suggest that the average person could recreate what he or many of the others mentioned in the book have done, is just ludicrous.

I regretfully hoped for more.

I received an special offer for this book via Clickbank. Book was "free" as long as I'd pay postage. A very good deal, I though.

This is a good book. Not great, but worth checking out. I give credit to the author for covering so many aspects of online business in one book. The problem is, there isn't enough space for everything he wants to cover-- at least in detail. It's kind of like being at a buffet, with a lot of choices, but only being able to take a tiny bite. You get an idea of what is available, but don't walk away totally satisfied.

Luckily, I have been studying online marketing for a while. When I read this stuff, I got what he was saying. If this is your first book about online maketing though, or you're looking to "get rich quick", you may end up frustrated as some of the aspects here will likely be too complicated for you to understand since you'll have to "fill in the blanks" yourself. For a beginner, I think something like Laptop Lifestyle - How to Quit Your Job and Make a Good Living on the Internet (Volume 1 - Quick Start Guide to Making Money Online) is a better option, since it moves a little slower and gives step-by-step lists of what you can do to either sell your own products online or make money using affiliate programs.

The best part about this book is that it gives detailed case studies of successful businesses and how they are making money online. There are a lot of ways to make money online and this will get you thinking about how you can find something that works for you.
